SMART BOMB FOR BREAST CANCER

Good news in the fight against Breast cancer....it's called the "Smart Bomb."

It's A combination of drugs that acts as a sort of "smart bomb" against breast cancer cells without damaging healthy ones.   And so far, it's performing successfully in early testing.

In a key test involving nearly 1,000 women with very advanced disease, the experimental treatment extended by several months the time women lived without their cancer getting worse.

SCHOOL BUDGET ISSUES

Last night the County Commissioners and School Board battled it out last night along with the community over the $35 million the school board wants to improve education.

The Mayor says no.

The Superintendent says yes.

The community is kind of split on whether taxes should be raised to cover the costs.

So, what is the answer to improving education without raising taxes?

HOME RUN

When Dylan Coleman hit his first home run, it came off the bat with a very special sound. The spectators were stunned and the crowd roared to their feet. 

The sad part of this story is his dad wasn't there.  Dylan had to settle for a call to his dad to let him know he'd put one over the fence.  Right then, his dad made a promise- that's the last home run he'd ever miss.

Wahooo... it's back!   It's Tax Free Weekend in TN! 

The dates are set for Tennessee's sales tax holiday weekend.

During the first weekend in August, from Friday, August 3 at 12:01 a.m. to Sunday, August 5 at 11:59 p.m., shoppers can buy many items tax free.

As in the past, tax-free items include clothing under $100, school supplies under $100, and computers that are $1500 or less.

On June 5, Venus will pass in front of the sun just as the moon did on May 20. Better watch. The next Transit of Venus won't be until Dec. 11, 2117.

Skygazers who watched the recent solar eclipse should get their safety goggles ready for a celestial event that won't occur again for 105 years.

On June 5, the second planet in our solar system will crawl across the surface of the sun making an epic journey called the Transit of Venus.

GOODBYE RICHARD

Former 'Family Feud' host Richard Dawson dies at 79.

Richard Dawson, the wisecracking British entertainer who was among the schemers in the 1960s TV comedy "Hogan's Heroes" and a decade later began kissing thousands of female contestants as host of the game show "Family Feud" has died. He was 79.

Dawson, also known to TV fans as the Cockney prisoner-of-war Cpl. Peter Newkirk on "Hogan's Heroes," died Saturday night from complications related to esophageal cancer at Ronald Reagan Memorial Hospital, his son Gary said.
