The city's mayor said that city
leaders decided to lay off three police department workers, two street
department workers, as well as two other city officials. The city's
library will also shut down.
Funeral services were held in Scott County for 17-year-old Shadara
Douglas. She died Wednesday after suddenly collapsing. Doctors believe
she may have had some kind of undiagnosed heart condition.
East Tennessee State University has received a more-than-$2.2 million
grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to launch a research
program aimed at battling prescription drug abuse.
