The amount represents about $13 million more than the current school
budget, which McIntyre wants to spend on higher teacher pay and new
security measures.
The U.S. Senate is expected to have its first vote on new gun laws
Thursday. The president has called for expanded background checks, bans
on assault weapons, and bans on high capacity magazines.
