As the 108th Tennessee General Assembly draws to a close, state
lawmakers are hoping to push through education proposals that include
creating a state panel to authorize charter schools for five counties
and a measure that would clear the way for cities to begin forming
municipal school systems.
Nearly 40 percent of the state's roads are considered in poor or
mediocre quality, according to a recent national report, and Tennesseans
will spend on average $182 a year fixing their cars as a result.
