TVA has scheduled highway lane closures this weekend, April 19-22, for
geotechnical work at Fort Loudoun Dam near Lenoir City and the Kingston
Dike in downtown Kingston, weather permitting.
The Grande Event Center in North Knoxville hosted an open house on
Wednesday. It's part of the Knoxville Expo Center that's been renovated
to host events.
In rural East Tennessee, there is an antique piano shop unlike any other
place in the world. It's full of treasures that date back centuries,
and are being restored to their former glory.
The old Morristown College was sold in three parcels at a tax sale. The
former owner, Kenny Lane of Knoxville, owed thousands of dollars in back
taxes to Hamblen County.
The budget includes $77.4 million for a 1.5 percent pay raise for
state employees, $22.2 million to reduce the sales tax on food by 0.25
percent, and $18.7 million to continue the elimination of the state's
inheritance tax.
Davidson County Chancellor Carol McCoy on Wednesday ordered the
Tennessee Department of Children's Services to provide the Tennessean
and other media outlets with redacted case files of the 50 most recent
cases involving 2012 fatalities or near-fatalities of children under
their watch.
